Last week I had the joy of photographing a surprise proposal at the Georgetown Waterfront!

After being matched by their families, Sonam and Himanshu met for the first time in London in February. Since Sonam lives in India and Himanshu lives in Virginia, they were then separated by international travel restrictions for most of 2020. After a long distance romance, Sonam was finally able to travel to the United States last month.

Himanshu planned a romantic surprise proposal at the Georgetown Waterfront for her, and I’m thrilled he invited me to photograph it! Himanshu and I coordinated in advance, and I grabbed a table on the water at Nick’s Riverside Grill to wait for them. When I saw them arrive to the waterfront, I walked nearby and pretended I was waiting for someone else. Himanshu and I were humored that Sonam grabbed my attention to ask me if I would take a picture of them with her phone. Then a few minutes later, when Himanshu proposed, she finally realized that he’d hire me to photograph them!
